Personal and loving French drama about a single mother with a sick father and a new lover.
Single mother Sandra (Léa Seydoux) lives with her eight-year-old daughter in a small flat in Paris. Besides taking care of her daughter and her busy job as an interpreter, Sandra regularly visits her father who suffers from a neurodegenerative disease that causes him to deteriorate rapidly. While Sandra and her family are busy packing his belongings and struggling to find a suitable care home, she runs into her old friend Clément. Despite Clément being in a relationship, the two have an affair and Sandra feels alive again after a long time.
Mia Hansen-Løve (Bergman Island) drew inspiration for the script partly from her father’s illness, so the story has autobiographical elements. Un beau matin premiered at this year’s Cannes Director’s Fortnight, where it won the Europa Cinemas Label for Best European Film at Cannes 2022.
