Twenty-seven

Ira Hoefsmid / Netherlands / 2019 / 28′

Three friends made a pact to live like rockstars and then kill themselves at the age of twenty-seven. Now they are starting to grow up, do their views change? Will the pact stay intact? In this short documentary the filmmaker follows the boys in their journey to twenty-seven and gets a close up view of their thoughts, fears and questions about life and their way of living it.

The Song

Daan van den Berg / Netherlands / 2019 / 22′

American singer-songwriter David Olney (b. 1947) tours the Netherlands each couple of years, but this time he struggles with physical issues that come as a price for his love for touring.

David died suddenly on stage early in 2020 while performing. The 2018 tour was his last in the Netherlands.

Diggin Demos

Katinka Schlette / Netherlands / 2020 / 6′

One musician. One collector. Two worn-out demotape cassettes. Diggin’ Demos is a film about tracing and preserving forgotten music treasures and stories. Stories from the period of the 70s and 80s, when the invention of the music cassette enabled musicians to release their music by themselves.

A Wall of Sound

Joris Hendrix / Netherlands / 2019 / 11′

For more than three decades Hans Kulk has been on a musical quest, collecting old test equipment from the 1950’s. Instruments that were never meant to produce music and were originally used for nuclear research and in space laboratories.

After 35 years of collecting these instruments Hans has founded the Willem Twee Studio’s. A unique studio for electronic music the likes of which cannot be found anywhere else in the world today, based in the Dutch city of Den Bosch.

Building on the legacy of electronic music composers like Karlheinz Stockhausen and Dick Raaymakers, Hans wants the studio to become an international centre of electronic music by pulling artists out of their laptops and into the world of analog sound synthesis.

In the documentary A Wall of Sound director Joris Hendrix shows how an artist like Jameszoo dives into a new world of undiscovered sounds together with Hans. All by taking to his biggest devotion: musical experimentation.
