Intimate documentary about a family fighting for their daughter's happiness in a society that clings to traditional ideas about gender.
Seven-year-old Sasha has dreamed of being a girl for as long as she can remember. Her family supports her without hesitation. However, at school she has to wear boys’ clothes and is treated differently from her classmates. For Sasha, it is sometimes difficult to understand why she cannot simply be who she is and wear what she wants.
Petite Fille shows both the struggle of a family against their hostile environment and their daily concerns. With great care, director Sébastien Lifshitz sketches a moving portrait. The film was awarded the Grand Prix at the Ghent Film Festival in 2020.
