Demsala Nan (The Bread Season) is set in the present day in Amed (also known as Diyarbakır), a Kurdish city in eastern Turkey. The film portrays the everyday pressures of working-class life and how these strains weigh heavily on family relationships. At the center of the story is one family: Mahmoud, the father; Fatma, the mother; and their son, Azad. As they navigate financial hardship and emotional tension at home, each of them quietly longs for a different way of living. The film follows their efforts to endure, connect, and imagine change while caught in a household shaped by conflict and unspoken frustrations.
