Six-year-old Cléo (Louise Mauroy-Panzani) grows up in Paris. Since her birth, she has been raised by the Cape Verdean Gloria, while her single father is rarely home. Cléo and Gloria are inseparable. Until Gloria receives a phone call from her family and urgently needs to return home to take care of her own children. When Cléo is allowed to spend the summer with Gloria in Cape Verde, she starts to realize that Gloria also has a world outside hers.
Ama Gloria is the impressive solo directorial debut of Marie Amachoukeli and is loosely based on her own childhood memories. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival as the opening film of the La Semaine de la Critique section.
