Ketelhuis Expat
Céline is looking forward to the arrival of her first child. Except she isn’t pregnant herself; her wife Nadia is set to give birth to their daughter in three months. However, to be legally recognized as a mother, Céline must adopt her child and prove that she deserves a place in her own daughter’s life. As part of this process, she is asked to collect fifteen statements confirming that she will be a good mother. Under the watchful eyes of friends, family, and the law, she searches for her place as a parent.
Des Preuves d’Amour is a moving, yet light and humorous portrait of queer parenthood and the obstacles that come with it. Based on director Alice Douard’s own experiences, the film poignantly tells the story from the perspective of the non-pregnant partner during the final stage of pregnancy.
The film had its world premiere in the Critics’ Week (Semaine de la Critique) at the Cannes Film Festival and went on to screen at events like Film by the Sea, Tapis Rouge Filmfestival and the Roze Filmdagen.
