Ketelhuis Expat
A universal story about love, queerness, friendship, dreams and inequality in Bangkok – from the producers of How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies.
Anyone who becomes a police officer in Thailand is automatically offered an apartment for the entire family in the local ‘police flats’. In this block, Jane and Ann grow up together, separated by floors, but also by their status. As the daughter of a sergeant who is not always honest, Jane grows up with all the comforts, while her best friend Ann bears the responsibility for her family after her father died. When the young police officer Tong comes to live with them in the flat, the dynamic between Jane and Ann changes. Blossoming love, jealousy, shattered dreams for the future and their difference in social status crack their inseparable bond.
Flat Girls shows how money and status seep into all layers of Thai society, but also shows the openness of the country, in which being queer is increasingly becoming the norm. From the producers of the Thai film hit How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies.
