Past and present collide as four natives of Northern Kurdistan fight to preserve their culture.

AGAINST FORGETTING narrates the stories of four participants in Diyarbakir, a city in Northern Kurdistan, amidst political turmoil. In September 2016, the Turkish President appointed trustees to replace elected officials in pro-Kurdish municipalities, stripping away the power of local governance. Despite this, the participants are devoted to preserving Kurdish culture through land, body, food, and music. As their stories unfold, epic encounters between good and evil emerge on a dramatic stage

An elderly Kurdish carpenter, Hussein Mahmood, builds artificial legs for landmine victims in his remote community.
In a remote mountainous Kurdish region of Iran, elderly Kurdish carpenter Hussein Mahmood trudges through snow in search of wood. In a land scarred by landmines, many have lost their legs—Hussein crafts wooden prosthetics to help them walk again. Observed by squirrels and surrounded by majestic nature, he transforms raw tree trunks into limbs, working in quiet harmony with the world around him.
