Urgent documentary about two friends who follow the footsteps of their grandfathers in Indonesia
Daan van Citters (director) and Joenoes Polnaya (actor) become friends during the filming of fictionfilm De Oost. Together they travel back to Indonesia, to follow their grandfathers footsteps. Both fought against the Indonesian independence on assignment of the Dutch government: Daans Dutch grandfather voluntered, Joenoes’ grandfather was a Moluccan soldier. Their poignant trip forces them to ask themselves and each other difficult questions about guilt and shame, and they discover how a hidden history made them into who they are today.
