Who knew it would be so satisfying to watch two people cook in complete harmony, for forty minutes? The first scene of Le pot-au-feu is a miracle. It shows cooking as a ballet – chef Eugénie (Juliette Binoche) and gastromoner Dodin (Benoit Magimel) almost dance around each other, reducing an infinite stack of ingredients to the most mouthwatering dishes.
Is the way to someone’s heart through their stomach? In France 1885? Eugénie keeps on turning down Dodins marriage proposals. But will he change her mind if he decides to cook for her? Thanks to the loving way director Trần Anh Hùng shows the French cuisine, he won the prize for best director at the Cannes Film Festival.
