Werner Herzog – Radical Dreamer (English subs)
Werner Herzog is a phenomenon, a director of unforgettable classics about small people with grand desires, a filmmaker who always emphasises the power of nature over man, and a cult figure. He made his first (short) film in 1962 – with a camera stolen from the Munich Film Academy – , his latest production is already in the pipeline. Werner Herzog (b. 1942) continues filming until his last breath. For Herzog, filming is a plunge into the unknown, a process in which you become aware that behind the ordinariness of things lies a deeper truth that can be chillingly beautiful, terrifying or moving. No wonder the filmmaker has sometimes been described as “the last defender of German Romanticism”.
Herzog is always a source of fascinating statements and this is no different. With his distinctive accent, which Wenders says he invented himself, he again orates lustily.Het Parool
