Home: The Story of Zak Moradi | AKFF

Amsterdam Koerdisch Film Festival

‘Home: The Story of Zak Moradi’ explores the journey of a refugee — from fleeing war to building a new home, and eventually returning to reconnect with his homeland. With Q&A

Home: The Story of Zak Moradi tells the story of a refugee born in a camp in war-torn Iraq on the day the Gulf War began. Zak and his family share their experiences — from fleeing their home to building a new life in Ireland, where Zak finds a community and his passion through the Irish Gaelic sport of hurling.

After 20 years away from Iraq, he returns to reconnect with his past on an emotional journey.
It is a poignant and inspiring story of resilience and hope that explores the importance, meaning, and feeling of home.

The film had its Irish premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh 2024.

Afterwards there will be a Q&A with Zak Moradi and Trevor Whelan (crew and director)
