Italian drama about a young woman who rebels against age-old traditions and morality in 1960s Sicily.
Lia is a young woman living with her parents in a Sicilian village. She has a strong character and finds it hard to resist the there primal customs of the 1960s. She has known the flamboyant Lorenzo, son of the mayor, for some time. Lorenzo clearly wants more but Lia is reluctant. One night, he kidnaps her to his mountain cabin, where they share the bed, against her will. According to prevailing morality, Lia must accept the age-old tradition of “reparative” marriage and marry to save her honour. She does not accept this and for the first time in Italian history, a woman defies social expectations and goes into battle for self-determination.
With the brisk Claudia Gusmano as 'the girl of the future', it succeeds well in delivering a down-to-earth drama about a social issue that does not only affect women.
